In
a time when everything is going the corporate
way; from small time manufacturers to Bollywood,
one wonders what is the fate of our television
industry going to be! Though some production
houses have made an early entry to the corporate
culture, a large majority still believes
in nepotism and whimsical approach to work.
We spark a debate among TV folks to know
how much our television industry is organized
at the moment.

If you compare world television and Indian
television, I think, we differ in not acknowledging
the Intellectual Property Rights. We have
fostered an environment of plagiarism and
that is our biggest malady. I would say
that our producer's need to do more thinking
than delivering tapes all through the day.

I feel it's pretty organized. Look at the
number of people getting employment in the
industry. I also agree that there are certain
areas that need improvement, like an advance
scheduling so that in any eventuality the
programme does not have to bereplaced or
re-run.

Though this industry has given me a lot,
I still feel there are areas that require
more discipline. As an actor I am not too
happy with the working conditions that one
has to encounter everyday. We have to work
endlessly without any holidays and it starts
getting difficult for us to adjust to such
demands. Moreover things like favoritism
rule the roost in our industry.

It's not at all organized. Here we have
no scripts on time which affects the banking
of episodes. Which in turn means more pressure
on the producer, actors and technicians.
Though I must praise the efforts some actors
and producers are doing to organize the
industry.

I have heard stories where episodes are
made on a cut-to-cut basis. I don't understand
why the producer's and the channel don't
have a bank of episodes prior to launching
a show. And then you have actors fainting
and technicians going without sleep for
days. We need to put an end to such disorganized
scheduling.
