The
recent molestation of a girl at the Gateway
of India by a morbid mob made a shocking
read. The incident sparks a debate about
the safety of women in a city that has always
been considered as a safe heaven for the
fairer sex.
Ruhail Amin notes down what telly
celebs think about the incident and the
safety of women in the city.
Barkha Bisht
You will find anti-social elements everywhere.
I think the molestation incident would not
have been averted even if you had deployed
100 more security people on the streets.
According to me, it's about a person's mentality
and no amount of security can grant you
complete safety from it. The incident is
shocking and I pity women who have to go
through this mental torture.
Tisca Chopra
I think Mumbai is one of the safest cities
I have known. I have been living here for
the last 10 years and have never faced any
kind of harassment. The recent incident
should never be seen as part of the city's
attitude towards women. It is a case in
isolation and stinks of miscreant mentality.
Dimple Inamdar
Mumbai is one of the safest places for
women in India and the recent event was
really unfortunate for the city's image.
I think, somewhere women are also responsible
for their safety. I mean, what is the need
to wear skimpy clothes in public places?
Twinkle Bajpai
I think the city is quite safe for women.
The incident at the Gateway of India according
to me is a stray incident and should not
be considered as an evaluation point for
the safety levels existent in the city.
Priya Wal
It is an anomaly in a city like Mumbai
where women can travel alone till 2 in the
night. At the same time the thing to worry
about is that such incidents are on the
rise for the last few months and the Gateway
incident being part of the same. I think
the law enforcement agencies should deal
with the matter in a serious way.
