A new
era has begun in Tellywood with producers
ringing in rookie actors for plum projects.
Rati Pandey is one such young and talented
actress who's cashing in big time. Presently,
the actress is playing the lead character,
Prarthana, in Zee's new soap Har Ghar
Kuch Kehta Hai
Elaborating on her character she says,
"Prarthana is a simple and conservative
girl. Born and brought up in a joint family,
she believes in arranged marriage. She always
puts her family's interest ahead of her."
Very quick to point out that Rati is very
different in real life "Har Ghar..
is my second venture.I am exactly the opposite
in real life. There's no similarity between
Prarthana and me. I'm completely against
arranged marriage. Prarthana is emotional
but I'm very practical. I'm bubbly and jovial."
Apparently, Rati plays pranks on the sets
of Har Ghar.. by mimicking her co
stars."Since,most members of our team
are Biharis, we all chat in Bhojpuri. My
colleagues call me Rabri Devi" giggles
Rati. However, the actor hasn't quite mingled
with veteran actor Alok Nath. Though she's
yet to shoot a scene with him, Rati admits
to feeling nervous when required to face
him.
Despite all the fun on the sets, Rati is
a loner in this city of dreams. "I've
been staying alone. I don't have many friends
as I think you can't trust everyone in this
industry" enunciates Rati.
Born in Assam, this Bhojpuri girl later
moved to Delhi. That's where she completed
her graduation (B.Com, Economics). "Acting
was never on my mind, as I actually wanted
to become a businesswoman. I did modeling
before taking up theatre. Two years ago,
I arrived in Bombay and gave auditions for
most production houses.
Surprisingly, I got a call from the producers
of Shaadi Street. "In a few
months from now the show will go on air.
That's all that I can reveal to you now,"
she says.
The actress has also acted in Telegu film
called Student. She may not have aspired
to be an actress, but now that she's made
the cut, Rati has set her sights for bigger
things. "I can't play a tragedy queen
Prarthana forever, I'd like to do challenging
roles, where people can relate to my character.
I wouldn't mind playing a cop or even a
don. "
An avid admirer of Sharon Stone, Rati can't
be as bold as her idol but she wants to
play similar characters. Also, she wouldn't
mind putting her mimicry skills to test
in a comedy show.
At the moment, the actress is enjoying
her freedom in Mumbai, a fundamental right
that she couldn't quite execute in a conservative
city like Delhi. Apart from acting and mimicking,
this Assamese born Bhojpuri girl thrives
on learning different languages.
After learning Hindi, Bhojpuri, Assamese,
bits of Telegu, Bengali, Nepali and Punjabi,
Rati now wants to try her hand at Marathi.
Well, Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hain may
not have much to say, but the linguistic
Rati's lips have plenty to utter.
