Trust
a TV show to take a 180 degree turn when
it comes to the profile of it's characters
(positive to negative and vice versa). The
latest actor to feel the pinch is Malini
Kapoor, who plays the role of the sacrificing
sister Zeenat in Sahara One's Muslim show
Zaara.
 |
As Malini states, "Initially me, myself
had forced my husand, Amir (Jatin Grewal)
to marry my sister Zaara (Samiksha), as
I could not conceive. But now thanks to
the machination of Gul phupi (Shagufta
Ali), I fallaciously start suspecting that
Zara is trying to ease me out of Amir's
life. The fact that both of us are also
pregnant (how convenient) is making me even
more insecure." On a diplomatic note,
she adds, "Although I personally find
these sudden twists and turns weird, we
have to succumb to it, for we are actors
and possibly the audience too likes these
masala changes. Who would find a normal
life entertaining?
This actor from Kolkata debuted on DD with
Hawayein, another Muslim social and
later went on to do roles in Saathiya,
Dekho Magar Pyar Se, Sindoor, and Kumkum.
She believes that she has been jinxed with
most of her above mentioned roles (except
Hawyein), which got a good start,
but later petered out. "Hence the fact
people now remember me as Zeenat is a very
good feeling," she says with a smile.
What's the weirdest aspect about the change
of your portrayal in Zaara? The toughest
part has been screaming at Samiksha (who
plays Zaara) for we are like sisters. She
further refused to speculate on where the
story might go from here, "I would
love it, if they made my character have
an extra martial affair, but I doubt it
as I am shown to be very devoted to Amir."(How
sad!)
If given a chance this, English honors graduate,
would love to do something like Divvya Dutta
did in Kadamb, "Man that role
was superb, for it gave the actress the
chance to portray a large variety of characters
in a single show. What about Bollywood?
"I am not in favour of those typical
jhatak matak roles, but if something
good in the form of an offbeat role comes
along, I would be more than game".
Point noted!
