Manav
Vij is better known as Joydeep in Kyunki
Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi. A
homeopath by profession, an actor chosen
by destiny, we find Manav quite a bundle
of surprises. Currently his character has
been made to look like a nerdish Jassi counterpart.
But as the buzz goes, Joydeep might soon
go in for a makeover.
Kavita Dadhe gets Manav talking about his
own character Joydeep, on the way Kyunki
is shaping up and above all about his passion
for acting.
Is the subdued
and nerdish Joydeep going in for a makeover?
It's a creative decision so I wouldn't know,
but people tell me that I look like the
superman of Kyunki. I don't know how true
this is but let's see. I hope it does though!
Do you think drastic
changes in your character will get more
fan following?
I can't comment on it. All this depends
on how the channel along with creative team
want to take this forward. Above all, the
audience will decide and I will do the best
of what I am given.
Your take on the
makeover?
If they give me a make over, you will see
a new guy. You won't be able to recognise
me, I can assure you that!

The character
you play is of a very spineless husband.
Would you ever take so much of humiliation
in real life?
Not at all. Joydeep is self created. I am
not like him at all in real life. Joydeep
is not even .05% of Manav. As far as the
characterization goes, I have worked on
the 12 mannerisms of the character.
Who's your favourite character in Kyunki?
Amongst the older generation, it has to
be Mihir Virani. I love that character.
From t he new generation, Pulkit's role
as Lakshya is amazing.
How's the camaraderie
between the actors on the sets of Kyunki?
Lovely, we all are good friends. On screen
the world knows it. Off screen we are like
a family, we go for dinners together. We
all talk a lot and are not jealous of each
other's roles. I am happy with the unit.
Having done quite
a few regional films, how do you manage
shuttling between TV and films?
I started my career with Shaeed-E-Azam,
Bhagat Singh, where I played the title role.
I've also done some Punjabi cinema. Since,
I am passionate about acting, I generally
don't differentiate between TV and films.
