A jhalak of Prachi Desai

At an age when most teenagers would be confused about life's goals 20- year- old Prachi Desai aka Bani of Kasamh Se, has already created a name for herself. She shot to fame at the young age of 18 with the success of her serial Kasamh Se... And bagging awards seems to have become a ritual to her. She recently was awarded the best actor trophy at the seventh Indian Telly Awards.

We spoke to an animated Prachi about the recent Jhalak controversy, Kasamh se and much more.

Q. What's next on the work front?
I really can't say anything on that front. I wanted to do something different so I did
Jhalak Dikhla Ja, for which I got appreciation from the judges and a good response from the viewers.

Q. Have you been receiving any offers from Bollywood? Are you considering any such offers?
Yes, I have been receiving offers, but at present I can't reveal anything. Nothing is on paper at present.

Q. Your mentor Ekta Kapoor is also in the movie business, has she offered you any roles?
Not as yet. Actually Ekta's last movie Shootout at Lokhandwala was an action packed movie and there was hardly anything for the heroine to do in it. I don't mind doing small roles but the script has to be very tempting and appealing. The role should allow me to prove my potential.

Q. There was news that things were not fine between you and the other participants like Sandhya Mridul, Sonali Kulkarni and Ronit Roy on Jhalak Dikhla Ja. How are the things now?
Oh no, things are very normal on JDJ. We are very friendly to each other and there is actually no tiff. I was not there for a week as a result of my elimination, so I am unaware of what happened then. But since the time I have returned everything is smooth and normal.

Q. How do you justify the wild card entry in reality shows? It is reported that your comeback was a result of Ekta's push?
See, Balaji, Synergy and Sony are different entities. So Ekta has no rights whatsoever to push things or change the format. One of the ousted participants was entitled to come back through the wild card and in this case it was me. This is all due to overwhelming response from the audience. People said that they would stop watching Jhalak… if I don't come back and their love and support got me back in the show.

Q. What do you do when not working?
I really get tired at times. I am always on my toes and that leaves me with no time to pamper myself. I love dancing and singing but then I have no time to nurture such hobbies. I try watching TV if I get an hour or so free especially Kasamh Se and Jhalak Dikhla Ja or I go to shopping.

Q. Any more reality shows for you?
No, basically I don't have the time to indulge in any more shows.

Q. Are you seeing someone?
First of all I don't have the time as I am always caught up with work. To add to that I just don't want to welcome any more stresses by getting into any such relationship.

Q. Who is your favorite co-star? Who do you think matches you best on screen?
My favorite co-stars would be Ram Kapoor, Naman Shaw. I also love dadi essayed by Sudha Shivpuri in Kasamh Se. As far as the best match on screen I would say Ram Kapoor matches me the best.

Q. What is your fitness regime?
I have no time to work out. I am an extremely unhealthy person. I get tired easily and keep falling ill constantly on the sets too.

Q. Can you share any behind the scene experiences from Kasamh Se or Jhalak Dikhla Ja?
Ram Kapoor is the biggest prankster ever. I remember once we were shooting day-in and day-out for Kasamh Se. We were all very tired. And there was our make-up man snoring off in a corner. On seeing him Ram went and poured a bucket full of water on him. That poor chap couldn't help but smile
