Well,the
old serials now have me literally pulling out my hair(I mean it!),the KSBKBT,KGGK,have
made me sick to the core, same repeat tracks of bahus behaving badly, sacrificing
their happiness for the good of the family(Nandini and the leading lady in Karam
apna apna),Old goons coming back to take age old revenges(Sasha in KGGK),I
cant even remember where his track ended, forget following it now,Old husband coming
in a new avatar and character(Raunak as some big Biz guy in Kasturi).Phew
the list is way tooo long to even count and recall the monotonous chapters that
are being repeated in these serials.
Surprisingly the new serials that
have caught my eye also come from the same Balaji household, the ones on 9X seem
refreshing for now and are followable to a certain limit.though Kahen na kahen
follows somewat the same story line as Ek ladki anjaani si did in the start.Kinjal
is now pregnant with the baby through IVF and that too,the father is her former
best buddies husband, lets see how the following weeks develop the storyline.
New
faces,no generation leaps make them good time pass.
Kya dil mein hain
also looks interesting with now Kakul somehow sitting in the brides place
and getting married to rahul, now dont tell me even this will follow the old way
to get back property and revenge.
Smriti Iranis serials also seem to be
churning out quality work, hoping she maintains it with Mere apne, really interesting
to follow, every week there is a new development that brings out the viewers eye
and makes it interesting to follow.Viruddh was good while it lasted, and the storylines
never drag beyond a pointKeep up the good work smriti.
Neelanjana has a
wierd storyline with the lead character accepting her malik as husband(now y she
did that,i didnt follow).
Kuch is tara is also nice to follow, sometimes
comedy seems good in it,but the Natasha track(wat crap is that).I used to follow
amber dhara but now havem stopped, dont know why, maybe lost interest in the boring
track.
All in all 9X seems to be giving the viewers something to hold onto, specially
ones like me sitting at home after studies.
oh yeah who can forget the
really irritating reality singing shows all of them from star, sony, zee,NDTV imagine,9X
phew, get more creative guy, enough of these shows.
And now roadies has started
with umpteen repeat telecasts,by now have learned every dailogue from the 1st
episode,its really being overdone.
all those serials from starworld Kyle
XY,Bones, prison break, criminal minds and the rest.
Well nothin more to
write now,ta ta!

editor
Just thought that
it would be nice if I could share a few thoughts with you on the daily dose of
serials that are dished out each day & which are watched with so much of interest
by millions of people of varied age groups. There
was a time when there were just 3-4 cahnnels and the no of serials were limited
and of good quality which amde for good viewing. Now all of a sudden the television
scene has really changed and how!!!!! Almost each day we hera of anew channel
that is being launched resulting in more production houses making more serials.
It will definitely hot up the competition, but unfortunately it will only add
to the viewers confusion as most of them will be aired during prime time.It will
probably end in people surfing and changing channels so that they do not miss
out on anything. I too watch a few serials when time
permits and in my opinion the worst are the"K" ones dished out by the
Balaji Stable.Inspite of being family bases serials they are too unreal for my
liking. They all started out fine, but six to seven years down the line I guess
they havel run out of ideas and resort to the age old idea of rebirths, plastic
surgery and what not. It is a suprise that they are so popular with the masses
inspite of that. Due to this very reason the Balaji serials are also very predictable.
Among all the serials the one production house that stands out and comes first
to my mind is Hats Off productions. They are so refreshingly different in their
approach towards making a serial. Even they have the family as the main storyline
but each one of are so brilliantly woven into the story that we miss them when
they are not seen in any episode. Baa Bahu Aur Baby for example which has has
at least 15 characters never seem too many even if they are all there in one shot.
They blend in so well. Most importantly is that this serial and all the other
ones from Hats Off tend to reach out to the common man as they are very similar
to a normal houisehold. All their joys. sorrows and experiences are ones that
each individual experiences in their life , hence they relate with them. The entire
set, costumes, dialouges are all so natural that one cannot help, but feel that
they are so much like one of us. On the other hand in a Balaji serial inspite
of many characters we only actually see the focus on 2 people who are talking
and all the other cast just seem to stand their as extras even though thay are
known names. Another serial which I can see again
& again is Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai .I think that this must be one serial with
just 5-6 actors but so well written and with such a sense of humour that after
watching the repeats also I still laugh my guts out. It is indded apity that there
is no sequel to it.Similarly with Khichdi,a fantastic comedy serial with a whole
lot of great actors like Supriya Patahk. Anang Desai etc. Hats Off I guess is
able to capture essential family values and they use the medium of comedy so well
thateven if the scene is serious we do not feel really drianed out as the comedy
element is shown here in a different vein altogether.
I think that apart from Hats off the other serial that I like now are Maayka,
Ghar Ki lakshmi Betiyaan and the very popular Teen Bahuraniyaan. Most of them
are relatively newcomers with a few veterans and it makes a refreshing change
to see new faces. All of them have the usual family masala, saas bahu differences
etc but each episode has a surprise element in it and are not at all predictable. The
characters are all shown playing key roles in them and all blend beautifully with
each other. Amongst the serials that I feel have a
great future and look good are Teen Bahuraaniyan from Playtime Creations and Ghar
Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan & Maayka from Creative Eye besides off course Baa Bahu.
Whether they can be really long lasting only time will tell as they have just
started out a few months back. The new serials on
9x, Imagine and Zee Next should be worth a watch as they are all being made by
good and respected production houses. |

A
bird’s eye view of the TV soap operas that I am following these days
All
the K serials follow the same trend… Every time there is a puja or a festival,
or memory loss episode. So in the last two weeks we saw an overdose of Ram-Ravan
combos, now it will the Ram ki Vapasi that will be dished out in all the serials
during Diwali time. Kasauti, Kahaani;
both had their 60-year-olds getting married again, though Prerna calls off hers
since old hubby is back. Om in a newer, younger version is getting married to
Rishika. They have daughters equal to Parvati’s grand children’s age, so Om continued
having kids after that accident, wow!! Some life these people lead, no common
sense... all nonsense. In Kyunki, it’s barbadi
time again, since its the umpteenth time that Shanti Niketan has gone into somebody
else's hands. Now its Tripthi, phew. We need
more creativity in the scriptwriters’ hands. Rehashing all the old stories is
not an attractive option any more. Kasturi
(here onwards referred to as Kahiin to Hoga Part 2), like Kashish is taking her
revenge on Robby for supposedly murdering her husband by marrying him and then
of course will proceed to destroy him just like Kashish by sabotaging the business
projects et all. Nothing unique though. We all know that he did not do it, so
back to square one, forgive and fall in love with Robby again. Good going Kash
2. Some tracks in the serial seem to have
been completely forgotten though. Nandini in KSBKBT was pregnant before the 20-year
leap, the baby seems to have disappeared now to God knows where. In Kahaani…,
Bharat and all the extra kids have also been done away with. In Kayamath, Prachi’s
father’s murderer are still free, the story is now a love triangle between Ayesha,
Milan and Prachi. And of course who can forget
the reality dance shows Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhlaja, though it is the latter
that seems to have caught my attention these days. NB3
has lost the charm that had taken viewers by surprise during the first season.
Sony's Amber-Dhara though, is something at least watchable
and provides a certain amount of freshness compared to the now eons old saas-bahu
sagas, revenge that takes place every now and then. Well,
that’s it for now. Till next time, stay fresh. Ciao!! |

"Sab
TV ka `Four' Four
on SabTV is a story of Four friends Rocky, Mannu, Rattu and TP played by Vipul
Gupta, Sameer Sharma, Raj Singh Arora and Mansi Parekh. These are small town people
with big aspirations. From Palankhet they have landed up in Mumbai with an objective
to make it big. Rocky loves music, but in accordance to his father's wishes, has
joined a medical college. Mannu wants to be a rockstar to fulfil his grandfathers
wishes. Rattu wants to make a lot of money to help his parents recover their lost
home. He also loves biking and want to be an ace biker. TP loves Rocky and is
an aimless girl. The serial covers the various twists and turns their
life takes as they try to fulfil their dreams. I'll first update you
guys on the story so far and then what I like about this show.
IN PALANKHET : The four friends
have graduated and are looking forward to shaping their careers. Rocky wants to
be a rockstar and also wins a singing contest. But his father wants him to be
a doctor, so he opts out of the contest and prepares to go to Mumbai and study
to be a doctor in a medical college there. Manu is second only to Rocky
in singing and music and he wins the contest by default after Rocky opts out.
He also prepares to go to Mumbai to launch his music album. Taranpreet
loves Rocky but he is not responsive, so she tries to marry an NRI (Gaurav Chopra).
But she pulls out of the marriage at the last moment as she cannot get over Rocky.
She also runs away from her marriage and joins her friends in Mumbai.
Rattu gets involved in a betting scam due to Cheeka, his biking rival. He owes
money to his parents and several of his friends. His parents are deeply saddened
by their son's involvement in financial scam and throw him out of the house. He
gets into a scrap with Cheeka and leaves Palankhet for Mumbai to earn quick money.
IN MUMBAI Rocky joins the medical college and goes to the hostel,
but Mannu loses his money and luggage and they are forced to spend some time hiding
with Rocky in his hostel room. Later, when thrown out of there, they spend time
on the footpath. When things get very bad, they decide to go back to Palankhet.
But at the last minute, Mannu lands a job with K-series music company and Rattu
is forced to take up the job of a drug peddler. They are able to get
a paying guest accomodation but only with TP disguised as a sardar boy. Later
on their landlord becomes fond of them and allows them to stay on even after learning
that TP is a girl. Cheeka has been murdered and the police comes looking
for Rattu. Rattu is discovered innocent when TP confesses to killing Cheeka after
he tried to harass her. Rocky had planted clues pointing to himself as a murderer
to save TP and gets into jail for it. The remaining 3 friends return to Palankhet
to find out the real murderer. After following several leads they are abducted
by Chadda who was behind the betting scam of Cheeka's as well. Chadda had also
attempted to grab the land belonging to Rattu's father. Chadda is arrested by
the police and Rocky is released.
My Review I think the
four friends are charismatic and good looking. Vipul Gupta (Rocky) has acted in
several TV commercials (Sprite, Airtel) and India Calling a serial on Star One.
He had a bit role in the movie Lakshya and Anjaan (not yet released). He is handsome
and has a huge fan following. Sameer Sharma (Mannu) is another tall handsome
fellow. He is playing the dead Capt Ahluwalia (in flashbacks) in the popular Left
Right Left. He has acted in several TV serials. Raj Singh Arora (Rattu) is a cute
guy enjoying immense popular 'Remix' on Star One. Manasi Parekh (TP) starred in
Kitni mast hai zindgi after winning a contest and has starred alongside Vipul
Gupta in India Calling. Unlike the sickening and everlasting saas bahu
serials on other channels, Four is a young fast moving serial. The characters
are believable and lovable too. It is a must watch for all those who are young
and young-at-heart. |

"Ekta
Kapoor's Kasturi " kasturi
was a show which started like Kkusum, a small town girl with big dreams.
But somewhere it took a downward journey when it started aping Kahiin to Hoga..
which got over sometime back (even this show had started on a good track and was
one of my favourites until Sujal was replaced). Just
a week back, I was really shocked to see the whole marriage sequence in Kasturi
been exactly lifted from Kahiin to Hoga, even the dialogues. Like Robby asking
Kasturi - just to dance at a party hosted after marriage as a gift from
his best friend; then the horse racing scene between Raunak and Robby. Robby crying
out for Kasturi as she leaves with her hubby, then the breakfast scene.
Goodness gracious….the list is endless. Seems
to me either the Balaji script writers have run out of steam or maybe they suffer
from a memory loss. Whatever maybe the case, it seems a little toooo much to expect
the audience to digest the same scenes and fall for them all over again. It's
just not possible, sooner or later audiences will realise there's nothing new
that Kasturi offers and stop watching the show. I
hope the writers soon realise their mistake and try to bring in some freshness
to the story before it ends up becoming a Kahiin to Hoga part 2. Or who knows
maybe that's what they are aiming to do. I think, even the character sketch of
all the actors matches those from KTH. Raunak is Piyush -- a much thinner version
and Robby - a la stubborn Sujal refusing to accept that his lover is now married
to someone else. The track changes
which happened in KTH … it was Piyush's mom wreaking havoc in the lovers life,
here it's Robby's mom with just a small difference. Its just that Piyush has more
wealth than Robby. Phew!!! There are
many more similarities which I am sure other readers of Tellychakkar have noticed. Here's
some advice for the queen of soaps Ekta Kapoor…. I love some of your shows and
am a regular follower of some of them, but please don' t take us couch potatoes
for granted dear. | | |

"Kasturi
a copy of kahin to hoga" It
is a well known fact that Ekta Kapoor's serial follow a similar trend, same twists
n turns n almost similar story line. But with the serial Kasturi the limit has
been crossed. It’s a complete copy of the serial Kahiin to Hoga. Not only
the story but scene to scene repetative, even dialogues are word to word exact
same. I guess after ruling for so many years on tellyworld, either she is running
out of ideas or she thinks that audience on the small screen has no memory.

Love
Story I started watching this show with quite
a bit of skepticism and the only thing that drew me to it was the name of the
director and that fresh faces although a welcome change, can be a bit of a gamble.
Now I find myself waiting for the show every evening and totally hooked. A few
things that make it so unique is the 2 parallel time tracks as well as multiple
storylines.. I love the way they seamlessly blend in with one another and inspite
of lags in each story line, still keeps my attention intact.
I love the
way "1st love" between Shruti and Akaash is captured so uniquely and
differently from the relationship between Akaash's parents. The maturity and immaturity
of behavior exibhited in each story line is very valid, very real and yet the
director never attempts to judge or pit one characater against the other.
Lastly, all
of us who have been in love and have had our hearts broken and have had friends
who stood by us no matter what will relate to this show. The characters are brilliantly
cast and I cannot wait to see more magic as this show continues to unfold. plal@nuskin.com |
