Indian
Premier League chairman Lalit Modi sees a bleak period for all saas-bahu
shows once cricket’s biggest extravaganza, IPL gets underway. It’s
a well documented fact that in this country cricket has always attracted more
attention. With the majority of matches taking place at prime time
and each game lasting for three hours, prime time shows are likely to experience
a dip in TRPs. However, is this how it will pan out for the next 44 days?
Tellychakkar caught up with few soap lovers as well as few cricket fans
to get their take on this. Kavita
Sangoi (Graphic designer)
I’m at no loss as we have no cricket
fans in our family. Thus my mother, sister and I will continue watching our soaps.
 Vinay
Kumar (housewife)
Gone are the days, when my sons used to hijack
the TV for watching their endless cricket matches. Luckily, we have two TV sets
at home.
Ruchika
Shah (housewife)
There’s a TV set in every room of the house.
So, neither my mother-in-law nor I will be at loss. Having said that, if it’s
a really interesting game then I might snub the soaps. I’m supporting King Khan’s
Kolkata Knight Riders. Tomorrow, I will miss my reality shows for the opening
match. My husband and father-in-law too are cricket buffs thus I might end up
watching few games with them.
Philip
Fernandes (Cricket fan)
The one thing that’s going to work
in the favour of the saas-bahus is that unlike a usual game, the IPL is
a competition between city teams. Whether national loyalties will transform into
city loyalties remains to be seen. Besides, IPL is a 44 day event, thus one might
lose interest after the initial weeks and skip a few matches. During those days,
my mom can continue watching her soaps.
Mala
Bahadur (Housewife)
I’m left handicapped after one of our TV
sets broke down. With just a solitary TV, I’m going to miss all my favourite soaps
for the next many days. My two sons and husband are cricket fanatics, so from
tomorrow it’s they who will have control over the remote. I wish some one would
gift me a TV.
