Love Behind Bars takes a look at the surprising world of marriages, love affairs and old-fashioned romance that takes place despite - and sometimes because of - the prison walls. These romances and relationships are not for the faint-hearted and are played out in starkly lit visiting rooms under the watchful eyes of prison guards.

The free men and women who are involved with inmates pay a steep price. How do they cope with such difficult and demanding relationships? How do they prevail against the odds?

Also in the programme is a feature entitled Sex Behind Bars, which looks at sexual violence in prisons and the impact of family visits on this brutal practice.
