Miss Congeniality
Sanjeeda Shaikh

Despite having played the lead in movies down South and also proved her mettle in Balaji serials it took a Nach Baliye to catapult the petite Sanjeeda into the big league. The actress confesses that post the reality show she has been receiving offers for film roles. In a relationship with Aamir Ali (her partner in Nach Baliye) Sanjeeda is gung-ho about both her personal as well as professional life.

Sanjeeda has her hands full with a daily soap and stage shows. We got Sanjeeda to talk about her life, her career plans and ofcourse her boyfriend, Aamir.

What are you doing other than Kayamath?
Right now it’s just Kayamath and lots of stage shows. So I can’t take anything else as of now as all of these keep me on my toes.

Don’t you think the negative character of Ayesha will typecast you?
No, I completely disagree. Actually television doesn’t leave you with many options. Either you can do a sati-savitri or a grey shade. I do feel that negative characters give you more scope to perform. After Nimmo, it was a great offer to play Ayesha in Kayamath. The two characters are poles apart.

Also my character Ayesha in Kayamath is not a negative character completely. It has got grey shades. I am just an obsessive lover who would go to any extent to win her love. I am not harming anyone for money.

With the influx of so many new channels this is the golden period for the television stars but still TV actors are only looking at the big screen. Comment

It is very obvious for any actor to look for such opportunities. There is no denying the fact that there is a wide difference between television and Bollywood. Though with television one has enormous reach and connection with the audience but still one always aspires of making it in Bollywood.

Are you doing any reality show or soap with your boyfriend Aamir Ali?
No, I can’t think of taking up anything. I don’t have the time to do anything new.

You have done Rohit Roy’s Pankh. What is the industry’s response?
As of now only Rohit and Sanjay Gupta have seen the rushes and have liked my work. My character is very simple and innocent. I have done the movie without a single touch of make-up.

Pankh is an art movie but then I am open to commercial cinema as well.

Are you getting more offers from Bollywood?
I am getting offers but nothing concrete as yet.

Aren’t you planning to work outside Balaji?
Well as of now I am quite happy with Kayamath. I would take up reality shows if they come my way.

During Nach Baliye you eventually became David Dhawan’s favourite. Has he offered you any role?
Well, if David ji praised me doesn’t mean that he will end up offering me roles. I am happy that I have achieved love from people, viewers and judges.

You started your career with movies in the South. Are you doing any movies there?
Taking up movies in the South would mean blocking 15 days in a month. I can’t give so much of time but yes I am getting good offers, reading certain scripts. But this is not the right time to divulge any details.
