Why Prasoon loves reality shows

Prasoon Joshi who is currently seen in NDTV Imagine’s Dhoom Mache De is very happy with his stint as a judge. Though he has judged many a show he credits Dhoom for all the popularity he has received from the masses. The wordsmith is on a new high and talks about his good experience on the show.

“I took up Dhoom as I’ve not done something like this. I have experience as a writer and this was a golden chance to try and experiment with my self too,” says Prasoon.

“Initially I was not sure whether I should take up this show as my profile is different as a writer. I decided it to give it a try and today I’m proud to be part of this show. It has helped me to interact with audiences more easily. Besides, the show was within my limitations as I have good knowledge about music and singing,” he adds.

What are the criteria on which you judge the participants?
“I personally judge the contestants on their performance for the day. The way they sing, their attire and most importantly their impact on audiences. We also look at their screen presence,” he explains.

“There are no comparisons as each has their own style. For example Baba is good at rap, Devang is good at his comedy and funny songs. There is no comparison between Richa Sharma and Jaspinder Narula. The task for us thus becomes easier,’ he verbalizes.

Are reality shows good enough to bring out talent?
“This is where we misunderstand. Reality shows are to entertain the audience. They are not looking for talent but just trying to give people a big platform, especially one who aspires to make singing his profession. Besides that they also give employment to many people like spot boys, make- up men, junior artists, etc,” he avers.

Why does the winner of such talent shows not make it big in the industry? “There is no guarantee in this field. We just provide you with a platform but after that you have to walk alone and achieve your dreams. I think we are too critical about all these things,” he explains.

What is your take- away from this show?
“This show helped me to understand the audience better. Beside that a good experience with my co-judges and participants. I really have a fond memory of them. What else you can ask for?” he concludes.

Prasoon is now open to other reality shows but the criterion being that they should revolve around music, ads and films.

Don’t worry Prasoon, going by the current scenario there will be no dearth of such shows.
