What’s the biggest issue women face today?

Marilyn Monroe once said, I'm very definitely a woman and I enjoy it. But how many women have the privilege to second this. Women in our country are one of the most challenged.

Even today they continue to get deprived, battered, raped, killed. On women’s day some of our most vociferous leading ladies magnify some of the most burning issues that their ilk face today.

Apara Mehta

I think the biggest issue is that a woman needs to be financially stable and independent. With that she should be well-educated so that she is able to get away from lots of problems. If she is not a professional but has the skill then she should utilise it. I have realized that it is very necessary to be independent and live on our own terms.

I think the reservation issue is important. People think that women are not strong and hence they are eligible for quota or reservation. I don’t want them to think on those lines. We are strong and sensible enough when it comes to decision making.

Delnazz Paul

I think it’s the still prevailing dowry system in our country. There are several parts in India where this system is practiced. Dowry should be eradicated totally. It is high time we came forward and stood up against it.

Gautami Gadgil

I think the most burning issue today is killing of the female foetus. Such practices are still prevalent in the inner parts of Rajasthan and many other cities. A boy is given more importance than a girl. Today in this century when boys and girls are equal why should such incidents take place? I know some people from the upper class who still feel bad when a girl is born. It’s disgusting and we all should raise our voice against it.

Shefali Shah

I feel the conflict between the generation that is and the generation that was. Beside that I also think there is a need to educate people about the equality among boys and girls. We as women are looked upon as multi-tasking. We are expected to look upon our family and kids first then work. There is nothing wrong in it but then it should not be stretched too far. The day I don’t want to cook I don’t. It’s my decision but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a responsible woman. These are ingrained issues and we need to set our self free from them.
