Dave, an actor and theatre producer on his actor wife Ketki Dave Courtship of
four years Married on March 17th, 1983
How
does it feel to have a successful wife? It feels very great. I still remember
the time when post-marriage Ketki decided to give up her career to become a housewife.
It was on my insistence that she decided to take up acting again. Fortunately,
she listened to my advice and her immense talent is not gone in vain. Does
she seek advice from you? Yes, very much. But we never interfere in each
other’s professional lives. I do not volunteer any suggestions. I help and advice
her when she is confused or when she asks for it. I also get critical of her work
as I am not biased. What is your mantra for a successful marriage? I
think the foundation has to be very strong. We both are very homely and family
people. We love to stay back home and spend time together when not working. We
love to do things together. We do have our differences as we are two individuals.
But we have gone together a long way so the understanding really serves as a boon.
What do you fight about the most? We have had our share of fights
and we still fight. We have creative differences when we are working together.
She as an actress wants to get things done her way and I as a producer of the
play want things to be done accordingly. At times the whole shooting comes to
a halt till we resolve our differences. Do you think you are
sacrificing? One has to do that when you are in a relationship. The day
when I told her to take up acting again I was prepared to make sacrifices. There
were times when she couldn’t look after the house due to her tight schedule and
three-four shifts a day. She wants to give her 100 percent to everything and do
everything perfectly. What is that one thing that you like the
most about her? Her honesty and her love for me. The way she looks after
my finances, home and children. Initially, I was very disorganized. She has transformed
me a lot and for my betterment.
