As
Wild Africa, a new series on wildlife adventure, is set to premiere on
Animal Planet on 17 May this year, we spoke to Rajiv Bakshi, Discovery Networks,
India director of marketing and communications. As the name suggests, the show
is about Africa. It's about the environment of Africa. What
is the show all about? It is a show where the topography, flora and fauna
of Africa are expansively covered. Audiences will get to see different sides of
environment in Africa. The series will dedicate one part each week to a different
environment, which include mountains, savannah, deserts, coasts, jungles, and
lakes and rivers, thereby discovering the flora and fauna of that area. There
is going to be everything a viewer wants to know about Africa's environment. Africa
is known for its beautiful environment and hence it is going to be a treat for
the eye of viewers.
How difficult is it for the show's
team to adapt themselves in varied climatic conditions? Of course it is
difficult in many ways and very challenging but that is what sets our channel
apart from others. There are experts who work on it so they are good in dealing
with differing climatic conditions. Also, many a times, there are separate teams
of experts to cover a particular aspect of African environment. Would
the viewers be able to access the places shown to explore the environment of Africa
looking at the show? The show does not provide information to access the
destinations in order to explore the environment but I believe that if someone
really wants to visit a particular place, he will do it no matter what. We do
the work of introducing the environment and African continent's natural historical
background. What amount of research goes into the show? A lot of
research is done. Here, again there is a team of experts. Some of the places going
to be telecast are based on extreme interiors and remote places.
What
are we going to see in the coming episodes? There is going to be the exotic
sides of African environment that could have never been even imagined or thought
by the viewers. All the series will be based on a different environment each week,
which include mountains, savannah, deserts, coasts, jungles, and lakes and rivers,
discovering the flora and fauna of that area.
