The
stand-up comedians on Sony’s Comedy Circus
2 are a tad upset for being ignored
in the show’s out-of-home promos. Comedy
Circus’ hoardings and posters have only
the actors and not their comedian partners.
Well, that’s not all. At the launch of the
show, the press release too contained only
pictures of the actors.
A
few of the comedians felt that they were
sidelined but they feared speaking on it.
However, one of them, on condition of anonymity
said, “It’s a stand-up show but we artists
have hardly been given any publicity. Across
hoardings and posters, you will only see
the actors and not the stand-up artists.
Worse, I was appalled to find that there
was not a single picture of us in the press
releases.”
Another stand-up artist added, “Perhaps,
we don’t look pretty enough and that’s why
we’ve been ignored.”
We brought this grievance to the notice
of the producer Vipul Shah, who offered
this explanation “Firstly, I have to admit
that not having the stand-up comedians’
images in the press release was a mistake.
This was even admitted by the channel.”
With regards to their absence in hoardings
and posters, Vipul enunciates, “These stand-up
artists are well established names. They
are proven performers. Also, you see these
comedians virtually everyday across television.
However, it’s the actors who are trying
to create an identity for themselves as
comedy artists.”
While Vipul does offer a fair explanation,
we wonder whether the stand-up comedians
will be satisfied with it.
