He’s
passionate about cricket, perhaps even more
than acting. Varun Badola will now get to
enact his passion though not completely.
The actor is all set to play a role of a
cricket coach in SAB TV’s Jersey No.10.
Speaking on his character, Varun says,
“I play Abhay Singh Rana. He has been appointed
as the head coach of the Victoria cricket
academy. He was a former Indian player who
went into oblivion once his career ended.”
But
coaching doesn’t allow him to play on the
screen. “Well, the playing takes place between
the shots,” says Varun before signing off.
To know more on his character, we called
up Jersey’s Senior Creative Director
Sharad Raj who said, “Abhay Singh Rana is
an unconventional coach” Is he as unconventional
as Greg Chappell? Sharad replies, “Initially,
no but later on he does employ few unconventional
tricks ala Chappell. On his first day at
work, he simply tells the boys to do whatever
they want. A week later, he points the strengths
and weaknesses of every individual. From
there on, he adopts unconventional methods
like Greg. For instance, he makes the boys
play soccer with their hands tied behind
their back.”
Greg Chappell’s tenure as Indian coach
wasn’t a pleasant one. Let’s hope that Varun
enjoys a smooth ride in Jersey No.10
