All
couch potatoes brace yourselves for a black,
and blank, period from 10 November. With
talks between Federation of Western India
Cine Employees (FWICE) and television producers
failing once again, there’s every likelihood
of your Hindi GECs going ahead with their
threat to black out all shows from 10 November.
Thus from Monday, you won't get to see your
saas bahu soaps nor the reality shows.
One show that won’t be affected is Bigg
Boss 2. All broadcasters mutually agreed
to give leeway to Bigg Boss as the
show’s format is completely different vis-à-vis
the other reality shows.
The TV industry first came to a standstill
when the workers union went on strike
on 1 October. Three days later, both parties
hammered out a solution. However, in the
subsequent weeks, the producers weren’t
ready to give in to the workers demands
so it was back to square one again. Though
there was some respite, as it was mutually
agreed by all parties to show only two hours
of fresh programming every day. However,
the broadcasters couldn’t afford to have
this stop-gap arrangement for long and so
they issued an ultimatum to the producers
and the workers union to solve their differences
by 9 November or else they’d black out all
fresh programming.
With no solution till November 8 and with
neither party willing to relent, it looks
likely that channels will go ahead with
their threat.
