Money.
That's what drives everyone in the final
analysis, whether in the glamour world of
acting or the hard grind of scripting and
producing. Cashin' In sits down with TV
celebs to know well they handle their financial
matters, and tracks their spending patterns.
As
one who was born with a silver spoon in
his mouth, Ali Merchant never really had
to worry about making money. However, he’s
very much a self-made man. Like an obedient
son, he still gives all his money to his
mother. He wants to invest in properties
so that one day he can construct a building
on that plot.
Here, the actor reveals how he goes about
making optimum use of his wealth.
How
important is money for you?
Money is extremely important in my life.
It completes you somewhere. No one can live
without it. Having said that money is not
everything but it plays a major part in
our lives.
Are you an impulsive buyer?
Well, I used to be an impulsive buyer but
this recession has taught me the value of
money. Now, I only buy things which are
a necessity.
What are the investments you have made?
I have bought some life insurance policies.
At times, I do invest in share market. I’m
planning to invest in properties so that
in near future I can construct a building
on it.
What is your most expensive purchase?
I bought a house for Rs.23 lakhs in Kandivili.
Its price has now soared to Rs. 95 lakhs.
Do you feel financially secure?
Well, I do but what matters these days
is how you make money from money. You cannot
sit idle even if you have enough money.
You will have to work hard to earn more
money to secure your future.
Who handles your expenses?
My mother takes care of my expenses. I
give her all the money that I earn and she
also takes care of my bank account, so I
needn’t worry at all.
What was your first salary? What you
did with it?
I got Rs. 2000 when I was doing Kitni
Mast Hai Zindagi on MTV. I treated my
friends with beer and snacks.
How much money do you carry every day?
I don’t carry more than 300 bucks every
day.
Any advice for the investors?
Right now don’t invest anywhere. Just wait
for bull market to come. Just play safe
while investing.
