Seasoned
actor Lalit Parimo has turned into an innovative
yoga teacher. The actor has devised his
style of yoga called ‘Abhinaya Yog’.
Abhinaya
yog is the combination of two words
'Abhinaya' and 'Yog', the
aim of which is self-development of an individual,
with the aid of basic acting skills and
yogic techniques. Abhinaya Yog helps
one fight all kinds of mental ailments.
He believes that all diseases are psychosomatic
so it is the mind that has to be understood
and treated. "Our world of emotions,
thoughts, feelings, has to be made stronger,
more positive, more optimistic," he
sighs.
The theory behind Abhinaya Yog is
very simple. “Everyone on this earth is
an actor and he or she comes in the world
for a brief span of time and goes away.
Most of us fail to play our roles properly
and hence life becomes a series of mistakes.
Discovering the actor within you helps you
refashion your thinking patterns and free
yourself of psychosomatic ailments,” Parimoo
explains.
Abhinaya Yoga has three phases.
The first phase – It teaches you the basic
skills of the craft of acting or abhinaya
so that one is able to reproduce and re-enact
all the major feelings and emotions of one's
life.
The second phase - It teaches an individual
how to cleanse the mind and get rid of all
negative emotions and replace them with
positive emotions and thinking. In Abhinaya
Yog workshop, role playing helps one
vent negative feelings. The students are
asked to act out a scene, in the way they
would react to a situation. This also helps
the students in opening up easily. A fifteen
day chart is given to follow the rhythm
of one's emotional world and a list of scenes
depicting positive emotions. The negative
emotions are let out through the enactment
of dramatic scenes, thus creating conditions
for catharsis; a perfect healing process.
The third and final phase of Abhinaya
Yog. In this stage an individual realises
his true nature and starts new and fresh
journey which is going into the depth of
his being.
"These workshops are very useful in
the corporate world during this time recession.
A lot of negativity has spread all around.
These workshops would help people vent out
their negative energy and help them understand
their co-worker better and teach them the
art of working as a team", concludes
the actor.
