Arjun Punj sticks to his word

Remember Arjun Punj? The angry cum lover boy who shot to fame with his performances in Sanjeevani, Saathi Re and Woh Rehne Wali Mahlon Ki had taken a break from television serials to try his luck in films a couple of years back. He is not interested in coming back to television at this point in time and wants to continue focussing on films. This, despite the fact that he has not been able to get a toehold, forget a foothold in the film industry.

"I always wanted to become a movie star and I will fight till I become one! Plus I would not agree with you on the fact that I don't have a toehold in the industry. I have already done one film - Tere Liye and am almost ready with his second release -- K Sera Sera's Taara Sitara with Riya Sen. I have just completed the dubbing for the film it should take another 2-3 months to hit the screens," argues Punj when questioned about his decision to stay away from the small screen which gave him so much love and fame. Tara Sitara is about a rivalry between two theatre parties. It is an out-and-out comedy film.

"Believe me, it is very tough to stay away from television. I am what I am today because of the small screen. But I hope everyone understands my desire and goal of becoming a film star," says an emotionally charged Punj. "Interestingly, since I have not done anything in television for the last two years, people are taking me more seriously now! I am in an advanced stage of discussion for two other film projects which should materialise in a couple of months," he says. Last we had seen Arjun last year in Kumar Mangat's film 123 in a tiny role.

"I don't think I would have been able to do this without my wife Gurdeep's (Kohli) support. She has been extremely patient and supportive in all possible ways. I would not have been able to concentrate on films so much without her support," says a proud husband who feels Gurdeep has done a fabulous job in transitioning from Prachi Desai in Kasamh Se.
