Anand
Raj Anand might have composed many groovy
tunes and might have been part of a lot
of reality shows. But none of them was a
dance-based reality show. As the music director
tries to match moves with his partner, he
speaks to Tellychakkar about why he opted
to do Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 3.
"One
night, when we were having dinner, I got
an SMS from Sony for Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa.
My son was very excited at that and immediately
said 'Papa, it's a very good show. You must
host it.' When I told him that they are
not expecting me to host the show; they
want me to dance in it, he was very amused.
Seeing the way happiness made his face glow,
I thought this joy should last. So, I took
up the challenge of dancing so that my kids
can smile whenever they see me perform,"
says the music director of many hit songs.
But on the dance floor, the competition
is for serious. Anand has no intention of
joking about the rehearsals. "Hum
jab tak chaate nahin, tab tak aate nahin,"
he says. Rehearsing everyday for three hours
is the norm. Speaking about his dance partner,
Rozita, Anand says, "She is a sweet
person – does not know how to scold. She's
a bundle of fun and a danger to the Hindi
language. She is not fluent in Hindi and
one of the rules laid down by the channel
is that English cannot be spoken. So, Rozita
tries out Hindi and the result is hilarious.
She stretches sounds – for example "sun"
becomes "soon". She kept mentioning
a film of mine repeatedly, and after a lot
of effort I realized that she was talking
about Dulhe Raja. At this rate, I
am at serious risk of forgetting my Hindi."
Well well. Seems like this jodi is living
up to the tagline of the show "Aaj
kya new try kiya?"
