‘Fair’ lady Sulagna ‘blacked’ out of Gauna

A few weeks ago, Tellychakkar reported how Sulagna Panigrahi was set to make her comeback with Swastik Pictures’ Gauna. However, a lot of changes have taken place since then. Not only is Sulagna no longer part of the show but it bears a new title as well. Gauna is now titled Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo.

As reported earlier, Sulagna was very much on board but what is it that turned the tide against her? Well, here it is straight from the horse’s mouth.

A matter-of-fact Sulagna explains, “I was approached for the role. My producers (Swastik Pictures), whom I was contracted to, were very keen on having me and they backed me till the end. However, the channel felt that I didn’t suit the character. They wanted a dark-skinned girl and I’m fair. So, that’s how I missed out. I thought, I’d finally got a new show after eight months but it wasn’t to be.”

Producer Siddharth Tewary on the other hand refuted that Sulagna Panigrahi was ever considered for the role. He said, “We never finalised Sulagna for the role. Regarding the title, Gauna was always a working title. It was never final as it’s not what the show is all about.”

Ratan Rajput who is now playing the lead on the show said, “I am playing the lead in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo and the promos are on air since yesterday. I am now waiting for the call from the production house to start the shoot for the same.”

We also messaged Ajay Bhalwankar, Zee TV programming head, but he remained unavailable for comment.

Kashmeera Irani and Sulagna (Amber Dhara) were contracted for two years with Swastik Pictures. Unfortunately, the show wound up before two years. And as a result of their contract the two girls couldn’t accept other shows. However, their contract with Swastik is now over.

“Our contract was over few days ago. I’m free to take up any show. Unfortunately, during the last eight months I missed on a whole lot of shows. Some of them were really big. The problem now is that is that I’ll be left sitting idle further as most new shows will only come after Indian Premier League,” says a dejected Sulagna.
