Amit Paul's Pyaar Ki Dastaan

Remember Amit Paul? The favourite of last year's Indian Idol, who lost out in the finals to cop-turned-singer Prashant Tamang is on Cloud Nine these days. And he has every reason to. His song Pyaar Ki Dastaan from the film Luck By Chance is topping all music charts. Amit, along with Mahalaxmi Iyer sang this song which was penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Tellychakkar caught up with Amit and this is what he had to say on how he got this big break: "Javed ji suggested my name for the song. He used to like my singing a lot during Indian Idol-3 and was very sad when I lost to Prashant Tamang. He even consoled me at that time saying that I should not be so sad and opportunities will knock at my door."

For almost a year nothing happened and suddenly Amit got a call from the legendary writer. "While writing this song he called me and asked me to come down to his place. I went and he made me listen to this song which was a scratch version at that point of time. He asked for my opinion. I said it's a marvellous creation. Then he asked me to come the next day to the recording studio and that Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy would record the song in my voice! I was thrilled and shocked at the same time."

Javed Akhtar gave a tape of the scratch recording to Amit who rehearsed it throughout the night and went to the recording studio the next day. "On the day of recording I was very nervous and I told Shankarji I couldn't sing in front of him! But he made the situation very light and told me to give my best and sing with my soul. He explained that this was a soft romantic number and that he needed the softness in my voice. After the recording Javed ji gifted me the tape recorder which he had given me to listen to the scratch version. I am happy that I have started my playback singing with Javed ji and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy," remembers Amit. The first runner up of the third season of Indian Idol is also scheduled to start work on his basic album soon.
