Rajeev Paul wants to be a singer

He is an actor who has done all possible roles on Indian Television. He has been a lover boy (Walter) in Swabhiman, a bad man in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and a dancer in Nach Baliye. Interestingly, Rajeev Paul, the man of many colours, is busy learning music these days! That too, Indian classical music from a Kolkata-based teacher Rinku Dasgupta.

But why singing? Confesses Rajeev, "It is almost two years since I did something on small screen. There was a time when I found that I have reached a stagnation point in the industry. In fact, I commissioned an agency to find out my status in the market. I came to know that people feel it is the same old Rajeev Paul they are seeing over the years. So I decided to gave it a six-month break and did some tough workouts and came up with a good physique." But even that did not yield the desired results. So now he decided to try his hand at singing. "Singing also allows you to do various voice modulations and I feel I can become a good singer. People who have seen me dancing in Nach Baliye will realise that I am a much better singer than a dancer!" says Rajeev.

However, Rajeev has not been sitting idle all this while. "As an actor we should always try to give different flavours to the audience and thus from last year I have started working on an English play Wedding Album. It is written by Girish Karnad and produced by Lillette Dubey," informs Rajeev. Wedding Album is the story of an educated and modern family. We are going to different cities with our play and it gives me immense pleasure to receive instant feedback. More, since this play has become a big hit!"

But what about his television career? "The television industry has grown a lot since my debut in Swabhimaan. It's a big world now in terms of channels, programmes, budget and technology. So, it's good to work here now." Unfortunately, not too many good offers have been coming his way in the past. "Recently I got some good offers and hope to decide something soon"

What if he gets an offer in the big screen? "The medium is not that important for me. I can work for both – films and television. I am not desperate to work in films. I will go for films provided I get good offers," replies Rajeev.
