In
June 2008, we had broken the news of Shakuntalam
Films’ new show Maa
that was to make its way on Zee TV. We had
also reported that Maa will mark
Amar
Upadhyay’s return to television.
Six months later, the show is finally set
to launch on 12 January. This daily will
air at 7.00 pm in place of Vivaah,
which is now shifted to 2.00 pm at the expense
of Teen Bahuraaniyan.
Maa
is a story about the struggles of three
siblings who suddenly find themselves stripped
of the shade and protection of their mother’s
caring arms. Sacrifice, care, warmth, patience,
tolerance, tenderness, shelter, etc come
together to form the perfect image of a
mother who stands in the face of challenges
in life. Destiny intervenes and separates
the mother and children from each other.
‘Maa’ is about this very severing
of the maternal bond and the tribulations
that arise thereof.
Chitrapama, who plays the central character
of the mother Apara, returns to television
after six years. Harshit Bharadwaj (Amar
Upadhyay) is her husband. Amar is said to
be playing a cameo and his character will
die. Child actors Adit, Shyam and Hirak
play the three kids.
