The gap widens: Star retains its top position

Star Plus has just re-affirmed its strong foothold in the GEC sector with the latest TAM ratings. Pushing down all the competition, Star Plus remains the numero uno GEC with a GRP of 322. Last heard Colors was breathing down Star’s neck when Balika Vadhu became the number one show in the beginning of March. But after Star’s overwhelming success the gap has widened and Colors has now gone to the number three position with a GRP of 250 with Set Max in second position with a GRP of 301.

Till now Bidaai was the number one show but now it has been pushed to number two spot by the newly launched Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. But no-one is complaining as both the shows come from the Rajan Shahi stable. And the bull run continues for Star as its recently launched show Sabki Laadli Bebo by Endemol too has been received well with an initial TRP of 4.9 which makes it the number four show across all channels.

Yeh Rishta… has garnered a TRP of 6.4 and Bidaai occupied the number two slot by registering a TRP of 6.3. With this latest development Balika Vadhu which for the last couple of weeks was enjoying the top slot is now at number three with a TRP of 5.9.

Producer Rajan Shahi, Director’s Kut, says, “It feels great to know that both my shows are now placed in the top two positions. I just hope that Bidaai gets back to its number one position along with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. It feels proud to know that Yeh Rishta… has joined the bandwagon of top shows. But I must clarify that there is no competition as the two shows are moving together to make the time-band all the more popular and strong.”

Bidaai has been the base of the production house. It is like the root of the company and Yeh Rishta is like the off-shoot of this base show. Bidaai will always remain our flagship show. Bidaai has given a strong platform to Yeh Rishta… by creating a loyal fan-base while airing for an hour before the launch of my second show,” adds the producer.

So what according to him has worked in favour of Yeh Rishta…? Rajan avers, “We have never tried to change our storyline regardless of what our competition is doing. Bidaai’s success goes to the team-spirit and bonhomie of the cast and the crew and the same applies to Yeh Rishta... I can say that Yeh Rishta… is an extension of Bidaai. Naitik’s entry has been received well by the audiences and one must acknowledge the hard work put in by the entire cast and the crew. I would take this opportunity to personally acknowledge the great work put in by Romesh Kalra, series director of Yeh Rishta…

Commenting on the good opening of his newly launched show Sabki Ladli Bebo Rajesh Chadha, Director Production and Operations Endemol India, says, “The credit goes to a rocking storyline and very relatable characters. One must also acknowledge the power-packed performance by the veteran Kanwaljeet Singh. This doll like pretty faced lead of the show Shivshakti has succeeded in grabbing the attention from the viewers. And above all a great production design just contributes all the more to the success of the show.”

We tried contacting Anupama Mandloi, Senior Creative Director, Star Plus, but she remained unavailable.
