From Mahabharat to Jihaad

Remember Deepak Sandhu? The actor, last seen in Ekta Kapoor's Kahani Hamarey Mahabharat Ki as Nakul is back in action after a short break. But not in the small screen. Deepak has decided to try his luck on the big screen and has been identified for a key role in a short film based on Gujarat riots. Titled Jihaad the film is being directed by Manish, an assistant of Mani Ratnam.

"Initially I was unhappy at the way KHMK was shelved suddenly. But I kept in touch with the production house that gave me such a big break. Few weeks back, people from Balaji contacted me for a cameo in their horror show Koi Aane Ko Hai. Unfortunately, I could not take it up because of my commitments with this film," says Deepak.

"I am quite happy to get a break in the film. The shooting is scheduled to start in Karjat next week and will go on for two months. I will be working with Kay Kay Menon and Deepak Dobriyal in the film which is being made primarily with the film festivals in mind," says Deepak. "I am playing a character called Birju -- a Hindu boy who takes shelter in a Muslim family. The story is about how the family saves him from the riots and later on when he comes out from that house dressed as a Muslim boy, the Hindus kill him."
