After
a hiatus of 6 months the talented
Aashka
Goradia is back on TV. The actress
will be seen playing a prostitute in Tara
(Specials @ 10) on Sony. The story is directed
by Ashok Pandit under the banner of Bhandarkar
Entertainment.
Informs
the actress, “This is a dark love story between a prostitute and her pimp from
Kamathipura market. The story reflects the dark side of the world where girls
who are barely 8 are sucked into the murky world of prostitution. I am sold by
my mother when I was just 13 as she is in dire need of money. It is an interesting
tale of Tara who later falls in love with her pimp Raghu (Arya Babbar) and how
she struggles to come out of the dirt. But it is not an easy journey as once in
it you are always in it.” “I have been made to do a lot of research
for this role. You can’t be raw for such a character,” explains the actress.
So how has this role impacted her in real life? “It took me quite some
time to come out of such a strong character. Now I have developed a soft corner
for all such people who are forcibly pulled into such a profession. May be those
who sell their daughters are not bad as they are poverty driven,” says Aashka.
Very few people know that Aashka was almost
finalised to play Juhi in Madhur Bhandarkar’s
Heroine – Zindagi Ke Panno Se which
ultimately was essayed by
Mona
Vasu.
Explains the actress, “I really liked the
character but as I have already played mother
I was skeptical. Though Ashok has never
seen my work on TV he felt strongly that
I could play Tara. I too was desperate to
break my girl- next- door image.”
But why did she keep away from TV for so
long? “TV was getting very monotonous for
me. After doing a spate of shows like Kkusum,
Jet Set Go, Kahiin Toh Hoga, Sindoor, Mere
Apne, Viruddh, Saat
Pheree,
I though that was enough for me and I need
a break. This opportunity came as a blessing
and I did not let it go”, explains the actress.
Last when she spoke
to Tellychakkar, the actress announced her plans of producing a fiction and a
non- fiction show, so what is the progress on that front? Aashka explains, “We
are still developing concepts. Production is not easy and I am still trying to
understand the nitty-gritty of the business.”
Ask her about her favourite show on TV
and she answers, “Balika
Vadhu.”
