TV producers are turning back to history books in a bid to not only churn out a hit show but also to educate viewers about our famed historical figures.

The Sagars are pioneers in making such shows. And pretty soon, they’ll be launching a new historical show called Meerabai on NDTV Imagine.

Talking about the show, a source says, “Moti Sagar’s Sagar Pictures is producing Meerabai for NDTV Imagine. The show will project Meerabai’s life right since childhood. From what I’ve gathered, Shriya Sharma, who was seen in Kya aap paanchvi pass se tez hai? is more or less finalised to play the young Meerabai. Most likely this will be a weekend show and will go on air after IPL.”

Confirming the news, producer Moti Sagar says, “Yes, it’s true that we are producing Meerabai for Imagine. Beyond this, I can’t tell you anything. You must speak to the channel.”

We tried contacting Imagine programming head Shailja Kejriwal and even sent her a text message but there was no reply.

Meerabai, a Rajput princess was a 16th century Hindu mystical poetess. She was a disciple of Ravidas and a devotee of Lord Krishna.
