MUMBAI : Salman Khan's father Salim Khan started as an actor and did small roles in films like 'Teesri Manzil', 'Sarhaadi Lootera', 'Diwaana' to name a few. He later moved into screenwriting and reportedly had assisted writer Abrar Alvi. During a talk show with The Invincibles, Salim revealed that his relationship with Helen was an 'emotional accident'. He was at that time married to Salma, for the first time.

Salim in the talk show revealed Salma's reaction when he told her about his affair with Helen. "Salma didn't say you did something good, you should receive an award for it. This is an emotional accident. Kisi ke sath bhi ho sakta hai (It can happen to anybody). Then I managed it". Salim revealed like Salma, Helen also did not have anyone in her life and wanted to be her support system.

Talking about Helen, Salim further said that he did not have any intention of having an affair with her. He was being helpful to her. Helen started respecting his gestures. Salim feels that love needs respect and one cannot love anyone whom he or she does not respect.

When asked about how his sons- Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail accepted Helen; he said, "I sat down my children and told them this is the problem. But I want to tell you one thing, I know that you can't love Helen aunty as you love your mother. But I want the same respect (for her).” Salim married Helen in 1981 and his marriage with Salma had taken place in 1964.
