MUMBAI: Filmmaker Siddharth Malhotra in this exclusive interview with Tellychakkar.com talks about his upcoming web series Bestseller. He talks about the healthy discussion he had with his cast, how he approach Mithun Chakraborty and how much of the book is there in the web series.

Tell us, did you ever faced any healthy discussion or argument with your cast

They have read the script and come on board. There was nothing to add to their characters. So, if there is no healthy discussion then there is a problem. Then it is like they are doing it only for the money. As a filmmaker discussion both healthy and unhealthy are welcome because then you know that your actor is concerned about their roles and hence they are voicing their opinions. So, I think we had many discussions, but we stuck to things that we felt were better for the show.

Tell us, how difficult or easy was for you to approach Mithun Chakraborty for this role

It was pretty easy for me because Mithun sir knows who I am and my family as well. So I suggested his name to Amazon and we were wondering if he will say yes or no to the project. So I told them I can hear a No from Mithun but first sent him the script and let him read it.  So, the script was sent to him, and after reading the script he immediately called me and said that he is doing the film. He in fact told the character has been written very well. After that, he asked me who is the director, and when I said Mukul will be directing it. He was like, yes, I will do this film.

Tell us, how much of the book is there in the web series, and how much it is changed?

We have gone through the process of being loyal to the book. Talking about the writing, it was working to a certain point but it was not working on the larger scale. First, we wrote the script which was 50 percent of the book, then it was 40 percent of the book, and then we finally zeroed down to 80 percent which was different from the book. We have gone through the process for more than a year. We rather believe in what we are making and add to what we are actually going to shoot.
