MUMBAI: Netflix is in the process of developing the sequel to its 2018 runaway hit, Bird Box, the post-apocalypse horror thriller that enthralled viewers across the world. The news was confirmed by Josh Malerman, the author of Bird Box and its soon-to-be-released follow-up novel, Malorie. In an interaction with a publication, the author revealed that Bird Box 2 was indeed in development at Netflix. The streaming giant hasn’t made any official announcement on the same yet.

Sandra Bullock plays Malorie Hayes in Bird Box, who must fight unknown, terrifying creatures to stay alive in a post-apocalyptic world. The creatures have the power to drive anyone who sees them to suicide. The image of Sandra Bullock, navigating a river in a boat with her two kids, all three blindfolded to keep from being affected by the creatures and their terrifying ability, lingers on in the minds of viewers.
The screenplay of Bird Box was adapted by Eric Heisserer from Malerman’s 2014 novel of the same name. Susanne Bier directed the thriller. There’s no information on the cast and crew of Bird Box 2, or whether Sandra Bullock will be back to reprise her role from the original movie.
