MUMBAI: Corsets have become an integral part of the fashion word.

Let’s take a quick trip back to 1600 BC. Around this time, the corset started out as a sleeveless bodice that evolved into an undergarment with stays made of whalebone and steel that encircled the ribs in order to compress the natural waist. Why would someone ever agree to squeeze themselves between a sleeve of metal you may ask? Two words - body image.

For years, the corset garment has been tied to controversy. Emerging from the Western world in the early 16th century, the tight fitting undergarment wasn’t always the harmless regency style trend as we know it today. They have evolved over time and, with modern trends taking over the fashion industry, corsets have also been reworked with modern twists.

No longer just support garments, corsets have become more of a fashion statement. From belts to over-the-bust pieces, there are many ways to style this piece how you like it.

Telly actress Erica Fernandes is looking super charming in this all-white corset dress with cute and ting pastel-floral motif embroideries stitched on it's upper part.

Amyra Dastur comes with a bold and powerful look in this bold-blue coloured corset with pink prints. Her corset's imparting an overwhelming vibe on the actress.

Katrina Kaif endorsed this golden corset in the movie Dhoom 3. This corset imparted a 'royal Greek armour'-ish vibe with her entire ensemble.
