MUMBAI: The year 2022 gave us many things, including the freedom to travel again as we used to before the pandemic. Remote working, a trend now, gave us more freedom to travel than ever before. This helped us to find more meaningful ways of connecting with our loved ones and the world around us. Not only this, but the year that went by also changed our vocabulary in many ways. Thus, here's a look at eight travel words you need to know in 2023.

1. Micromobility
Motorised personal transportation, including e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-sleds, is reshaping cities and travel hubs worldwide. Additionally, more and more vacation firms are providing electric bike getaways, enabling outdoor discovery. The word was first officially used by USA business analyst Horace Dediu in 2017.

2. Queenagers
Queenagers are women between 45 and 65 living their finest lives. They are also becoming a prominent target in the tourism industry due to their independence and wealth. Since many women began to feel isolated during the pandemic, 2022 became the year of solitary female travel.

3. Hutlife
While vanlife dominated the roadways in 2021, "hutlife" seized control in 2022. We all got more isolated during the pandemic, and many travellers still desire to maintain that isolation. Overcrowded hotels or campsites with small, shared bathrooms aren't for them. If you want a low-cost, no-touch getaway, cosy, self-contained cabins are the way to go. They immerse you in nature while providing an off-the-grid vacation experience without the hassle.

4. Gamping
More tourists are choosing to camp during their vacations rather than spend a fortune on hotels due to the growing cost of living worldwide. Enter "gamping," a garden camping trend that originated during the COVID period. You can find lower prices, greater solitude, and more up-close interactions with nature by paying to stay in someone's garden or field.

5. Hometel
You must be knowing about Airbnb and hotels, but what about hometels? The term was created by the environmentally conscious, London-based company "room2," which refers to a stay that combines the convenience and comfort of home with the main features of a hotel.

6. Eduvacation
This one's for those who are always curious to know more and more. Eduvacations are holidays focused entirely on learning new things. Hotels follow the trend by providing educational programmes for visitors, including culture, eco-friendly living, and mindfulness. You need an eduvacation to rejuvenate and rediscover, whether you are a parent searching for a more meaningful family getaway or just an inquisitive traveller seeking inspiration.
