Amitabh Bachchan bats for women safety and honour

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan came out in strong support of girl child and women of India especially in trying times when women safety has become an issue in the country. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a life-size mural of Dadasaheb Phalke in Mumbai, Amitabh said a few unfortunate incidents notwithstanding it is necessary to continue working for girl child. Stated Amitabh, "It is heartening to see how we have evolved as a nation in cinema where women are today on equal footing. When Dadasaheb Phalke made the historic Raja Harishchandra, many of the women characters were played by men because it was not ethical for women to be participating in cinema at that time.Today woman are honoured on the same platform. I feel proud to find this change as the UN ambassador for girl child. Women are getting their due position in life. Yes, there have been a few hiccups of late which are extremely unfortunate but that will not stop us from working for the girl child or women. Women are 50 percent life of the nation. Women have their position in society equal to men. We must give women their grace and honour." Those are inspiring words from Mr. Bachchan.
