Bombay High Court pulls up Maharashtra govt over age limit on film sets: ‘How can you stop people from doing work?’

The Bombay High Court has pulled up the Maharashtra government for barring those above the age of 65 from joining work on film sets.

MUMBAI: The unfortunate outbreak of COVID-19 has created a ruckus in India and worldwide. People are advised to take all the necessary precautions by wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and washing hands or sanitising hands to curb the spread of this deadly virus. Now what got our attention is Bombay High Court has pulled Maharashtra Government for barring artists above the age of 65 years from working. As of now, actors above 65 years are not allowed to shoot for the TV shows or films.

Bombay High Court pulled up Maha. Govt from banning the artist or staff members who are above 65 years from entering the sets of the shows or films. A division bench of SJ Kathawala and Justice Riyaz Chagla tagged two petitions, which was filed by IMPPA and actor Pramod Pandey stating that matter to be heard further on July 29, 2020. Court asked the State govt. counsel advocate Purnima Kanthariya if there was any clause to stop a 70+ shop owner from opening his shop and work to which Mr. Purnima replied, “there wasn’t”, reports ANI.

The bench later asked, “How can you stop only people from doing work and earning their livelihood?” One of the pleas mentioned, “As per the list available with the petitioner, there are thousands of people aged above 65 years who were participating in the shooting of the programme prior to the lockdown. The shootings of such films and programmes have been left in between due to the non-availability of such people.”
