MUMBAI: Sequels and remakes of successful films are often considered a safe bet at the box office. Sequels are being made in the Hindi film industry for a long time now. 

Some of the earliest one includes Mithun Chakraborty playing a spy Gunmaster G-9 in 1979 hit Surakksha and its 1981 sequel Wardat. Similarly, Sridevi's 1986 hit Nagina spawned a sequel Nigahen: Nagina Part II in 1989. Dev Anand's 1967 cult classic Jewel Thief saw a sequel 29 years later in 1996 film Return of Jewel Thief. 

However, it was in 2006 that sequels became mainstream as the year saw as many as three films rocking the box office. Koi Mil Gaya sequel Krrish, Dhoom sequel Dhoom 2 and Hera Pheri sequel Phir Hera Pheri. 

There have been times when the sequel of a film has been teased towards the end of the film itself but for various reasons it never got made or have taken forever for its makers to return to the world. 

Take a look at the list of sequels that were teased but never got made below: 

Don 3

In 2006, Shah Rukh Khan starred in and as Don: The Chase Begins Again in the official remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer 1978 classic Don. In 2011, Farhan Akhtar returned for a sequel starring Shah Rukh Khan titled Don 2: The Chase Continues. The movie recieved immense love from the critics as well as fans and towards the end of the film, its sequel, a third film in the franchise was teased titled Don 3. Shah Rukh's character was seen riding a bike that had a plate mentioning Don 3. However, it's been more than 9 years the third films hasn't happened yet and so far, there isn't any plans for it happening either. 

At any given time, fans of the franchise and Shah Rukh Khan's keep demanding Farhan Akhtar to return to direction and make Don 3. 

Hera Pheri 3 

As mentioned above, Phir Hera Pheri was one of the four sequels of 2006 that kickstarted the whole fad in a huge way in Bollywood. Unfortunately for fans, the movie ended on a cliffhanger and it's been more than 14 years we still don't know if Raju, Shyam and Babu Bhaiya were able to get hold of the guns that were priceless. 

Over the years, there have been several instances when the third part was discussed. In fact, a couple of years back, the makers had even started filming without Akshay Kumar. At that time, the star cast included Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal reprising their roles with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham joining the cast. But, soon it was shelved.

Munna Bhai 3

After the blockbuster success of Munna Bhai MBBS sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai in 2006, makers released a teaser for the third part titled Munna Bhai Chale America. The teaser was loved by everyone and there was all round excitement about the third part but sadly for fans the film was shelved and it's been more than 14 years, we are yet to get another Munna Bhai. 

The reason for shelving Munna Bhai Chale America was said to be plot's similarity with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan. 

Chandni Chowk to Africa  

Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer 2009 film Chadni Chowk to China featured a post-credit scene that teased a sequelk titled Chandni Chowk to Africa. In fact, the closing card at the end had read, "To Be Continued". But, due to the failure of the Nikkhil Advani directorial at the box office, the sequel plans were shelved. 

Jagga Jasoos 2 

One movie sequel that wouold've been quite cool to watch is Jagga Jasoos 2. The film ends on a cliffhanger where we see a two-headed supervillain played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui who kidnaps Jagga and his father. The movie flopped at the box office and the sequel was shelved.
