After multiple roadblocks Sajid Nadiadwala is finally ready to roll out his next release, 2 States which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's highly popular novel by the same name. It's no secret that Sajid had earlier tried making the movie with Saif Ali Khan and then Shah Rukh and finally Ranbir Kapoor, all of whom after giving their initial assent eventually ended up walking out of the project. Just when things had reached a dead end, Karan Johar developed a keen interest in the novel and decided to join hands with Sajid to co-produce the movie as Sajid held the exclusive rights of the same.
Once Karan was on board, the casting was taken care of and Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were signed in to play the lead roles. However, Sajid was not entirely convinced about Arjun essaying the lead character and had his reservations about casting him.
Revealing this at the trailer launch of the movie Sajid said, “Many actors from Shah Rukh to Saif to finally Ranbir green lit this project. But things didn't work out with them. Finally, when Arjun's name was suggested I fell off my chair. I couldn't believe it initially. But I must say that Arjun has proved me wrong. He has done a tremendous job in the movie. In fact, he has grown as an actor in front of my very own eyes. I know his father very well and was friends with his mother too. I am very happy and proud to see him act brilliantly in the film.”
Meanwhile, author Chetan Bhagat whose previous works too have been converted into movies, looked pleased as punch with 2 States, the movie. “This is one novel of mine that has never ever been criticised," said a proud Chetan and also added that he was happy with the final product.
2 States, directed by Abhishek Varman also stars Amrita Singh, Ronit Roy and South Indian actor-director Revathi in important roles. The movie will be releasing on 18 April 2014.
