Hollywood stars rally against Trump's immigrant policy

Hollywood celebrities like Natalie Portman, Mindy Kaling and John Legend have spoken out against the controversial illegal immigration policy by US President Donald Trump's administration.

Trump and his administration have come under heavy criticism of late for adopting a zero-tolerance approach to people illegally crossing over the American border from Mexico, with officials currently separating parents from their children as they are taken into custody.

Portman is spearheading a new campaign calling on US lawmakers to stop tearing families apart as authorities crack down on illegal immigration, reports aceshowbiz.com.

She has now joined forces with activists at the National Domestic Workers Alliance to slam the "brutal new policy" via a MoveOn.org petition, which will be delivered to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, and members of the US Congress.

"This shockingly cruel, traumatic, and inhumane practice has no place in our country. It must be stopped immediately, and without holding these children hostage to pass other anti-immigrant policies we must speak loudly enough, and in large enough numbers, that the media stays focused on this story," Portman said in a statement.

The actress said she has "joined the National Domestic Workers Alliance to launch this petition. Please sign it and stay tuned for more ways to help these families".

Over 250,000 people had added their names to the campaign as WENN went to press.

Mindy, who has Indian roots, tweeted, "As a mother and a daughter of immigrants, I am heartbroken about children being separated from their families at America's borders."

Celebrities like Bette Midler, singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen, filmmaker Ron Howard, actresses Evan Rachel Wood and Alyssa Milano, and country legend Willie Nelson are among the other celebrities to blast the Trump administration in recent days.

Hollywood veteran Kevin Costner expressed his disgust during an appearance on talk show The View on 19 June.

Judd Apatow calls on Fox personalities to condemn company

Filmmaker Judd Apatow called on those associated with Fox to speak out against the company for its news coverage of US President Donald Trump's administrations immigration policy, which is leading to the separation of parents and children at the US-Mexico border.

In a series of tweets, Apatow condemned mass media company 21st Century Fox as well as CEO Rupert Murdoch and his family, reports variety.com.

"AG Jeff Sessions is a f***ing kidnapper! The Murdoch's support these policies! Where are the Fox stars and executives speaking up? Imagine if it was your kids. Who has a movie, TV show, sporting event, news show at Fox? How can you remain silent when they promote these policies?" Apatow tweeted.

Apatow explained in another tweet that he stopped working with Fox after his sitcom Undeclared was cancelled after one season in 2002.

"That's exactly what I said. Everyone can't stand up to their bosses but many people who work at Fox are in powerful positions and can say they do not support the networks support for evil policies," Apatow tweeted in response to one user who questioned whether or not he was making a blanket judgment of Fox employees.

Apatow praised Seth MacFarlane after the "Family Guy" creator called out Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson over the weekend for encouraging his audience to distrust other news networks.

Hours after Apatow's comments were made, Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan wrote, "Let me officially join Seth MacFarlane in saying I'm disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with Fox News. This bullshit is the opposite of what Modern Family stands for."

The border policy has received widespread condemnation from various public figures, including former US First Lady Laura Bush.

Kelly Clarkson will love her body 'no matter what'

Singer Kelly Clarkson, who has lost a lot of weight, believes in having a body-positive attitude.

Clarkson says she had taken to a new "clean eating" regimen after reading the book "The Plant Paradox", reports people.com.

"I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue," she said.

However, a source added, "No matter what, she (Clarkson) will always love her body. Weight loss wasn't the goal. This was an overall health approach."

After being diagnosed with a problem relating to her thyroid (an endocrine gland that stores and produces hormones and can affect energy and weight), the singer picked up the book in 2017.

The book suggests a dietary regimen that advocates 'clean eating' and aims at reducing consumption of foods high in proteins called lectins.

Clarkson based her diet on the bestseller which advises cutting several types of whole grains, dairy products, nuts and vegetables such as tomatoes, claiming they cause harmful inflammation, a theory that has been debated.

"It's basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic. All my levels are back up. I'm not on medicine anymore because of this book," she said.

Orlando Bloom had a crush on Cate Blanchett

Actor Orlando Bloom says he had a major crush on actress Cate Blanchett while they were filming for The Lord of the Rings.

On an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, which was taped in London, the 41-year-old actor joined Blanchett and confessed about his crush, reports etonline.com.

When asked what his first impression of Blanchett was when she was playing Galadriel and he was portraying Legolas in the film, Bloom said, "I can't think -- I had such a crush. I had the biggest crush on you."

Taken aback by the confession, Blanchett told him, "Well, it was your character!"

Bloom stuck to his story, exclaiming, "No, it was me!"

The actor said he was about 21 years old at the time of the filming and was intimidated by Blanchett, more than five years his senior.

"What was I, 110?" the 49-year-old actress quipped.

The crush wasn't mutual, but that may just be because Blanchett didn't know who Bloom was for a large portion of her three weeks on set.

"I didn't recognise you, because the first time I saw you, you had hair -- like Fabio hair and blue eyes. And then I just saw you -- who is this really cute guy out of drama school -- and I didn't put two and two together," said Blanchett.

Bloom added, "And I was just walking around spying on her from the corner of the room -- in a non creepy way."

Scott Baio won’t be charged over sexual assault allegations

Actor-director Scott Baio will not be charged with sexual assault after his former Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert accused him in January of molesting her for years.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to press charges against the 57-year-old.

"The applicable statute of limitations to the crimes alleged by the victim has expired. Thus, the case is declined," the District Attorney cited in a charge evaluation sheet obtained by people.com

Eggert tweeted, "Wait for it... Dismissed on Statutes of Limitation... Never because of lack of evidence. Case closed molester Scott Baio."

"Dismissed due to Statute of Limitation = Gu(i)lty. Period," Eggert added.

Baio has repeatedly denied her claims, calling them "100 (per cent) lies."

"Why would I have a concern over something I didn't do?" he said on Good Morning America.

"Rather than take your case to social media, where people tend to beat up people like me, why not do it through the proper channels? You put up allegations like that, and it becomes like wildfire," he added.

Baio said they were never alone together on the set.

"I don't know if you've ever been on a sitcom set, but on any given day - on every day, especially Charles in Charge, which was like a picnic every day, it was one of my favourite jobs I've ever done - there's teachers, parents, family, crew, producers, my dad. So how any of this could have happened is absolutely impossible," he said.

Eggert, 46, alleged on Twitter in late January that Baio had molested her from the age of 14 to 17. Generally, in California, prosecution of a sexual assault offence has to begin within 10 years of the alleged incident.

Rick Ross hit with $2 mn judgment

Hip-hop star Rick Ross has been asked to cough up $2 million in a trademark infringement case.

Independent rapper Raul Caiz sued Ross and his label heads at Def Jam Records and Universal Music Group in November 2015 for trademark infringement, unjust enrichment and misappropriation, claiming Ross began using his stage name Mastermind without his permission, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Ross's sixth studio album is titled "Mastermind". According to the lawsuit, he has been referring to himself using the moniker since 2013. Caiz took issue with its use because he has been known as Mastermind for 17 years, during which he has had the name trademarked.

He was seeking $2 million in damages and an injunction to stop Ross from using the moniker, but Ross, 42, subsequently fired back with a countersuit and asked for Caiz's case to be dismissed.

In December 2016, a judge sided with Ross and tossed the case. Caiz's trademark was also cancelled after the judge ruled consumers would not immediately associate the term 'Mastermind' with him. But Caiz has now won an appeal and has been awarded his request for damages, according to a gossip portal Bossip.

Last week, a panel of appellate judges issued their opinion, reversed the judge's decision and awarded Caiz the $2 million. The judges said Ross's argument that the dictionary definition of "mastermind" includes a musician and said there was no need for him to use the word to describe him.
