MUMBAI: Nearly seven years after Salman Khan was convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, the Rajasthan High Court is set to take up the appeals filed by both the actor and the state government on July 28. The hearing will consider Salman’s challenge to his 2018 conviction and five-year jail sentence, as well as the state’s appeal against the acquittal of co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam, Tabu, and local resident Dushyant Singh.

Justice Manoj Kumar Garg ordered that both appeals be combined for simultaneous consideration. The case stems from an incident in October 1998, when the group was accused of hunting two blackbucks near Jodhpur’s Kankani village during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain.
While Salman was convicted by a trial court in April 2018 and granted bail, the others were acquitted. The state challenged their acquittal, and Salman later sought to have his appeal moved to the High Court to ensure a unified hearing. According to complainant lawyer Mahipal Bishnoi, there had been no progress on the matter until recently. The court has now scheduled the next hearing, following a request from the complainant’s side to move things forward.
