Study of all religions should be made compulsory in schools - Paresh Rawal

Paresh Rawal

Paresh Rawal's next titled Dharam Sankat Mein revolves around religion and the different strings that come attached with them. Paresh plays a Hindu who later realises that he was born a Muslim. Subsequent to this realisation, Paresh embarks on a trip to find out his real Muslim parents and learns about the different idiosyncrasies practises by either religion.

While movies with religion as the central theme have also been made in past, more often than not it ends up attracting unwanted controversy with Aamir Khan's PK being the latest example. When asked about his fears of Dharam Sankat Mein getting mired in controversy, Paresh said, " We are here to mirror what is happening in our society. We haven't mocked any religion in our film. There is no reason for anyone to get offended."

Reacting on religious controversies, Paresh said, "It's unfortunate that people start filing cases and complaints just to stall their release and get publicity. According to me, to clear all these misnomers about religion, it is important that we make study of all religious texts a compulsory subject in school so that right from our childhood there will be no misconceptions and we will be religiously tolerant."

Paresh also objected to the attempt by censor board to object and restrain free speech. Reacting sharply, Paresh sarcastically said, "I am not in favour of censoring free speech. I don't even like the 'No smoking' slide. I wonder why there are no warning slides when a murder is being committed or when someone leaps off a car or bike."

We are in agreement with you Paresh.
