While it was earlier believed that Swastika character of Anguri Devi has been modeled yesteryear actress Devika Rani's life, it now emerges that Anguri Devi is actually inspired from the life of famous double agent Mata Hari and not Devika Rani. Mata Hari was a Frisian exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy and executed by a firing squad in France under charges of espionage for Germany during World War I. We have learnt that the nuances of Swastika's character has been crafted around Mata Hari to give an edge to her role without shelving the glamour element.
