India is celebrating its 69th year of independence. And it is the occasion to remember all the sacrifices that many patriots have made and also to look back at our history with pride.

Though we all celebrate the day together, the words independence has different meaning for everyone. And here on Tellychakkar.com we connect with few television stars to know what Independence mean to them. Here is what they have to say! Take a look.

Manav Gohil- Independence Day for me is a day when I relive the emotions that our freedom fighters lived each day through their entire life. I salute all the Soldiers who stand on the border just to protect us and our country. It is a day when I reaffirm my pledge to let the hope be undefeated for the nation and all humanity.

Aishwarya Sakhuja- Being from an army background I understand what our soldiers go through every day while protecting us. I believe that people need to be more responsible and better citizen. I think everyone should fight for their own rights. And today I am listening to patriotic songs and will also attend the flag hoisting at my building.

Karan Veer Mehra- Hailing from Delhi, every year on this day we indulge in kite flying and flag hoisting. Every Independence Day I miss my dad and the days that we have spent together. After my recent visit to Leh, my respect for soldiers has increased way beyond. I truly salute them for the way they are protecting and fighting for us. I am really fond of Mumbai culture and the way all the area and building are decorated for flag hoisting to pay homage to our great freedom fighters.

Anita Hassanandani- Independence for me means having a voice to raise against wrong, having the freedom to make your own decisions, taking responsibility for your own actions, and being mature enough to do all these.

Mohit Sehgal- I feel India is still not independent. Independence means no discrimination, no poverty, education for all and most importantly women empowerment. Earlier, this day was celebrated with lots of zeal and happiness and now unfortunately it has become more like any other holiday.

Pooja Sharma- Independence for me means freedom of thought, speech and action that helps me to realize my potential as a human being.
