TV actors talk about the #NationalAnthemDebate

Currently, the nation is debating on whether one should stand up while the national anthem is being played at theatres.

The debate started when a video of a family leaving a cinema hall for not standing up for the National Anthem went viral. This act has brought people and actors talking. We buzzed a few TV celebs to find out their take on it:

Deepika Singh:

In this busy life, we don’t get time to sing the National Anthem and when we go to watch a movie in theatre, we get that opportunity. The best part is that everyone in the cinema hall comes together to sing the Anthem.

Gautam Rode:

I think it shouldn't be played as most of the people just stand during national anthem not as a mark of respect, but since they have to as they are scared that everyone is watching them. We love our country but we should really respect what we do even in our actions.

Tarun Khanna:

I am more comfortable going to the front and fighting for my country as an army man. Having said that, I think we should not put pressure on anyone to stand for it as we don't go around beating people if they don't greet our parents. As respect is commanded and not demanded. We should show some tolerance so that in future no one can say that we are intolerant.

Helly Shah:

I don’t find any problem on it being played in theatres. Till now I haven’t witnessed anyone disrespecting the National Anthem.

Karan Mehra:

These little moments when we pay tribute to our great soldiers who fight for our life. We can definitely take out two to three minutes and sing the National Anthem. I personally enjoy singing it and I especially like the video, which features our soldiers and singers. It‘s a matter of pride.

Paridhi Sharma:

Yes, it should be played. Everybody is proud of it as this generates sense of inclusiveness, where we stand united as a nation, beyond caste, creed, religion etc. I can't comment on people but since childhood, I get goose bumps listening to the Nation Anthem. It always makes me feel great.

Manav Gohil:

I am absolutely okay with the idea of the National Anthem being played in theatres and I am more than comfortable standing up. But that feeling of patriotism would be only be a facade, if I go out of the theatre, start jumping signals, litter trash around or harbour disrespect for any culture or individuals.
