MUMBAI: With the ‘new normal’ setting in, the way we look at entertainment, especially cinema, is also changing. Taking the new change forward, Khaali Peeli will be releasing on the OTT platform very soon. The trailer of Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday-starrer Khaali Peeli has piqued the audience's curiosity. In the film, director Maqbool Khan showcases the old-world charm of Mumbai city. This is the filmmaker’s first collaboration with producers Ali Abbas Zafar and Himanshu Kishan Mehra. Interestingly, all three of them come from non-filmi backgrounds and stand out solely on the basis of their talent and individual perspective.

While planning the project, Ali and Himanshu didn’t take time to get Maqbool and the writers Yash Kesarwani and Sima Agarwal on board. Talking about his journey, Maqbool says, “I’ve been in the industry for the past 22 years, and finally, when I’m getting to do something which is so close to my heart, it feels surreal. All of us have faced our share of struggles since we came from non-filmi backgrounds. But I believe the fun part is when you come and prove yourself purely on the basis of your talent and abilities. It’s been great working with both my producers for Khaali Peeli, and I hope the audience enjoys our film.”

Ali, who was a biochemistry student, never thought he would become a filmmaker. He shares, “I’ve always loved the idea of storytelling and during my college days, I realised that cinema is drawing me in. Khaali Peeli is a perfect mix of emotion, drama, romance and action - the kind of cinema we have all grown up watching. As a producer, I am extremely happy with what we have done together in this film.” Himanshu adds, “All of us have learnt the ropes of our profession on the job. We need to go out there and tell as many entertaining stories as we can. It is the script that brought us together, and as talented professionals, everybody does their bit to make something that we all believe in.” 

Khaali Peeli, produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra, Ali Abbas Zafar and Zee Studios, releases exclusively on ZeePlex on October 2.
