Madhubala's TRP woes

Lights…camera…action…these are the words that symbolize Colors' show Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon. Celluloid on small screen, the show was launched with much pomp and fanfare. It opened with a TRP of 2.8, the highest for any fiction show in 2012. But as time trickled by, the numbers dipped and in spite of having two biggest TV heartthrobs as leads, namely Vivian Dsena (RK ) and Drashti Dhami (Madhu), the show just can't get out of its grappling state on the TRP chart.

Last week it managed to get only 1.7 TVR in spite of it being a very dramatic one with the protagonist of the show Madhubala getting married to RK. The scenario just raises one question…what ails Madhubala in the number game? During the launch of the show, producer Saurabh Tewary said in an interview with Tellychakkar.com, “The competition is high but we will be aiming for the best.” So are the audiences getting the best… or is it that the initial episodes of the show raised the bar too high and they haven’t been able to maintain the standards since then? Whatever be the reason… the soap is far from galloping on the TRP ladder. Last month in a conversation with Tellychakkar.com the producer had also said that the reason for the fall in TRPs was RK and Madhu being away from each other. “Once their love story starts the TRPs too will go up," he further added. We hope his words come true. On the other hand, Vivian doesn’t let such things bog him down as he had once told us, "I am an actor and my job is to perform to the best of my ability and not get affected by TRPs.” In fact, he even questioned the TRP measuring instrument. We tried getting in touch with Prashant Bhatt, Fiction Head, Colors, to get his take on the development, but he remained unavailable. It will be important to see how the plot unfolds from here. Will the creatives infuse RK and Madhu’s love sequence in a jiffy to soar up the numbers, or they will let time play its course? But one thing is for sure…with the ever varying trends in television…the taste and preferences of viewers are also changing. Only stars or marketing don’t sell…important and primary thing is connect and the script. Here’s wishing happy days ahead to Madhubala!!!
