AGNEE - The Face of Indie-Rock that rose from the ashes

If there is one thing that transcends time, religion & creed, it is music. And sending the entire nation on a musical high is Agnee, a contemporary rock band from Pune that has stood the test of time to become one of the most loved rock acts in the country. This week (7 December 2012) BIG CBS SPARK’s show Thank God Its Rock on Friday follows the resilient journey of a band that rose from the ashes to transform the agnee within them into music that is pure in sound, Indian to the very core and is burning brighter than ever before.
Agnee grew up struggling with sub-standard instruments and disinterested recording labels, but always with the goal of carving an identity of their own. They faced several setbacks due to the shocking and untimely demise of bassist and founding member Juggie and former manager Mandar on May 15th 1995. But this did not dissuade the other members as they translated all its restless energy and hunger for succor (very much a hall mark of Agni, the Firegod) into a creative force that could not be denied. The band witnessed a new dawn and returned once again with clarity, creativity and new enthusiasm with the desi effect but with more vigour than ever before. And from Pune’s best band they grew into one of the premier rock acts in India. Influenced by classic rock bands like Sting, Dave Matthews band, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple, Agnee’s music is a vibrant fusion of the individual styles and influences of its current band members which include Koco, Mohan, Varun, Michael, Nitin and others.
