Anjali Menon is known for directing Malayalam films like Kerala Cafe, Manjadikuru, Bangalore Days, and Koode. She is now gearing up for her next film titled Wonder Women, which will be getting an OTT release on Sony LIV. The film stars Nadiya Moidu, Nithya Menen, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Padmapriya, Sayanora Phillip, Archana Padmini, and Amruta Subhash in the lead roles.

The film’s story revolves around pregnant women from different backgrounds and cultures who come together at a prenatal center.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Anjali and spoke to her about the movie, casting, and more…

How did you get the idea of Wonder Women?

When we talk about friendships, the image that comes to our minds is of male groups and their bond because that’s what we have mostly seen in cinema. As time progressed we have seen multiple genders coming as groups, but I don’t remember seeing an all-exclusive female group of friendship, and I don’t know why. I think we need to have those memories, and those kinds of representations as well. There are so many women around who share fantastic chemistry, then how come we don’t see these things on screen? So, when I thought about it, I was thinking about what could be an exclusively female experience where they can bond together and that’s how the whole pregnancy angle came to it.

Was it difficult to get so many actresses together?

They all are very generous when it comes to what they believe in. For the promotions also everybody is here because they care about the film. So, casting was not so difficult. But, I do believe that it’s more from their side the ownness to participate in something like this.

 
Did you plan to release Wonder Women on OTT or a theatrical release was on your mind?

This was a film that we always thought would have an OTT release. In this film, we have tried to have a language like English which is away from the norm. It is very authentic yet away from the norm. We wanted an audience that is open to that kind of a thing, and therefore we thought that this should be an OTT release. When it comes to the trailer, a lot of people didn’t even realize that it was in English because when they watched it they felt organic. When we pointed it out they realized it was in English.
