When you think of Ravana, you may instantly think of Lord Rama and Sita. There are people who do not know that Ravana and Mahadev (Mohit Raina) have a connection. As per the mythological tale, Ravana after conquering Lanka had met Mahadev in the holy abode of Kailash. Mahadev’s vehicle Nandi disallowed him to enter. In fact he was infuriated on Ravana to the extent that Nandi cursed him that Lanka would be destroyed by a monkey. Mahadev who was irked by Ravana, pressed his tiniest toe on Kailash pinning him under the mountain. Ravana who was an ardent devotee of Shiva, plucked his nerves and converted them to strings to compose music and sing songs in his praise for years. Mahadev who was pleased with his devotion, not only set Ravana free but also gifted him the divine moon shaped sword Chandrahas. Ravana in the expression of his gratitude to Ravana composed the hymn known as Shiva Tandava Stotra. Mahadev had given his sword Chandrahas with a warning that if it was used for the wrong reasons, Ravana would die before his due time. After Ravana had been given the celestial juice of immortality by Brahma, he went on to make Mahadev happy. He severed his head and put it as a sacrifice for pleasing Mahadev who replaced his head with a new one. This continued till nine times, which completely won over Mahadev.
