MUMBAI: The film 'Hey Kameeni' lives up to its catchphrase, 'Girl gone badass,' and in doing so, it's likely to ruffle the feathers of those who enjoyed the recent wave of machismo in Bollywood, epitomized by movies like 'Animal.' This time, the spotlight is on the ladies, offering an unpredictable storyline and a refreshingly honest portrayal.

Writer Anjali Joshi sets the stage, stating, "The story is set against an energetic millennial background and flows through their experimentation with emotions, ambitions, and morality."

Director Mani Shankar emphasizes the essence of the film, "I made a film on a young girl confronting life -- she does not need villains to screw things up; she just needs to stop being afraid, get her act together and find the 'Kameeni' inside."

The narrative follows a young woman forced to discard her identity, navigating the city's streets. Impersonating a patient's relative to secure a night's refuge in a hospital waiting room, her life takes a turn when the patient passes away. Assuming the deceased's identity, she becomes Kamini Randhava, sparking a tumultuous friendship with Gauri.

The story unravels Kamini's true identity and the resolution of her unpredictable quest. As the two women navigate betrayals, counter-betrayals, and contrasting dreams, the film explores the complexity of their friendship.

The cast, featuring talented newcomers, brings a fresh perspective to the screen, challenging recent discussions about nepotism in Bollywood. Writers Anjali Joshi and Mani Shankar ensure that the film maintains its pace and intrigue, keeping the suspense alive until the very end.

Debutant music composer Rinki Sharma's soulful 'Tu Hai Kahan' and 'Dice' by Japanese debutant Ken Goma add to the film's unique soundtrack. The peppy title track 'Hey Kameeni' by Eddie perfectly complements the film's spirit.

Clocking in at 110 minutes, 'Hey Kameeni' is available for streaming on JioCinema. Directed by Mani Shankar and featuring Aasheema Vardaan and Drishika Chander in the cast, this film is an entertaining watch that promises to leave the audience with a smile.
